Auckland Viaduct Events Centre HVAC Upgrade Project
The Brief
In 2022, EQUANS carried out a mechanical plant upgrade project at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre on behalf of Auckland Unlimited, an organisation controlled by Auckland Council.
The facility previously operated an ageing seawater cooling system which was more than 15 years old. Due to recurring failure from blockage and rust caused by shellfish, the client made the decision to engage EQUANS as the main contractor to replace the system with a more efficient solution.
As the primary contractor, EQUANS were responsible for the programming and scheduling of the project, delivering a turnkey solution to provide a fully functioning HVAC system that is fit for purpose.
The Solution
The project was completed within a short time frame of only 4 months, and included the supply, installation and commissioning of:
- 1 x ThermoKey dry cooler including a new structural platform and screening fence
- 1 x NAP Silentflo for noise suppression and associated seismic restraints
- Heat rejection pipework to the new adiabatic dry cooler
- New water supply and discharge pipework to and from the adiabatic dry cooler circuit strainer
- Associated electrical work for the mechanical and controls systems.
The on-site EQUANS teams worked tirelessly to keep the construction programme on track, while ensuring the safety of the on-site teams and general public.
The Benefit
EQUANS maintained an open and transparent level of communication with the client through daily pre-start meetings and weekly on-site meetings to discuss progress and forthcoming tasks. This collaborative approach is enabled all parties to remain up to date with timelines, deliverables and completion dates.
Our teams worked hard to ensure minimal disruption to the highly operational facility by carrying out vital works after-hours, during lower occupancy periods.
The turnkey project will provide the Viaduct Events Centre with increased efficiency, less breakdowns and associated maintenance costs as well as reduced noise.
